Public Policy Mission:

In trying to serve its membership and promote responsible community planning and development, Metropolitan Pima Alliance remains active in public policies throughout the region. MPA’s Public Policy Committee works with the Executive Director and Governmental Relations Director in determining which issues tie into the Mission of the Alliance. MPA achieves its policy goals through productively finding common ground by engaging Alliance members with elected officials, department directors and municipal staff.
Specifically, MPA follows issues that potentially could affect community, economic or land development throughout metropolitan Pima County.  Through our deliberative process on different policy issues, we work to ensure that policies are created through a collaborative process and that all relevant voices are heard in creating an economically vibrant community with sound development practices.

   1.       MPA does not have a specific policy agenda because we determine the benefits and detriments  of each policy as they are proposed.

   2.       MPA works to ensure that the importance and relevance of the planning, development, construction and maintenance of projects is  at the table when policies are created and that the private sector is acknowledged as a key stakeholder in any collaborative process.
   3.       MPA engages to promote balanced and equitable policies and regulation which do not place undue burdens on any one sector at the expense of another.

   4.       MPA supports innovation and best practice while advocating for consumer choice and market –preference.
   5.       We track and respond to policies related to transportation, environment, water, design standards and anything else that has the potential to affect growth, land or economic development.

As an MPA member, you have the opportunity to participate in these discussions with elected officials and municipal staff.  MPA’s staff depends on the experiences and expertise of its members when negotiating the terms of policies and ordinances due to the complexity of many issues.  Additionally, our process is based on openness and candor.  We encourage members to contact staff or the public policy committee when there is an issue of concern that MPA should become involved in.
